Community invited to live Nativity event at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese, Dec. 10

November 21, 2023

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese and its Mission Team invite the community to a live Nativity event on the hospital grounds on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 4-6 p.m.

This open house-style event will include a drive-thru live Nativity scene in the main parking lot near the hospital’s front entrance, as well as other festivities such as carolers, children’s activities, and hot chocolate and cookies in the hospital’s front lobby.

Sister Pamela Falter, manager of spiritual care and Mission Team chairperson, explained the significance of the Nativity to HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital and why the Mission Team wanted to offer the event. “In 1223, St. Francis of Assisi began the tradition of commemorating the birth of Christ with a live Nativity near the city of Greccio, Italy. He gathered the townspeople for a Christmas Eve celebration to look like the very first Christmas when Jesus was born,” she said. “As this is the 800th anniversary of this first Nativity and our founding Sisters are the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, we wanted to celebrate this anniversary and honor our heritage by offering this live Nativity experience to the community.”
