Medical equipment donated to nurse aid program

September 08, 2022

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese recently delivered a donation of medical equipment and supplies to Mater Dei Catholic High School to support their new nurse aid program that began this 2022-23 school year.

The nurse aid program is being taught by St. Joseph’s retired colleagues, Helen Essenpreis and Sue Darr. The program currently has six students enrolled in the program, which teaches students proper nurse aid skills and techniques. At the end of the school year, the students will be prepared to take their certified nurse aid (CNA) exam.

St. Joseph’s Hospital donated an array of items to Mater Dei including beds, bedside tables, a stretcher, CPR manikins, linens, and other medical equipment and supplies that had been replaced with newer items to support the program.  Mater Dei Catholic High School Principal Dennis Litteken expressed his gratitude for the donation. “We appreciate the partnership with HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital to donate these items for this program.  By using this equipment and supplies, students can practice real-life scenarios and be appropriately trained to become a CNA.”

Amanda Ennen, St. Joseph’s chief nursing officer, shared, “We are always looking for ways to encourage young people to consider health care as a career choice. We are proud to support this program which is preparing high school students to become CNA’s. We hope that they will choose to join our St. Joseph’s team when they graduate.”
