PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

The Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) pharmacy residency program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Residents will gain extensive experience in all aspects of hospital pharmacy including pharmacokinetics, internal medicine, infectious disease, critical care, ED/trauma, pediatrics, neonatology, oncology and administration. Dedicated rounding services are included in the internal medicine, pediatrics, oncology and critical care learning experiences. The program's main goals are to develop competent clinical pharmacists capable of practicing in any setting, fostering leadership, pharmacy practice and education.

Projects
PGY1 residents will complete several rotation and longitudinal projects throughout the year. The major research project will be presented at institutional and statewide/national meetings and will result in a manuscript acceptable for publication. Two project weeks and a close out week will be scheduled during the residency year to provide dedicated project time.
Staffing
PGY1 residents are required to complete the following staffing requirements:
- Two weeks of concentrated central staffing
- Every third weekend
- Three evening shifts per month
- One major and one minor holiday
- Two days of project week staffing
