Dr. Marc Shelton

HSHS Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer

Marc E. Shelton, MD, FACC has been the Hospital Sisters Health System SVP and Chief Clinical Officer since April 2019.  Dr. Shelton earned his MD from Vanderbilt University in 1984 and stayed for Internal Medicine Residency through 1987.  He then became a Cardiology Fellow and was subsequently on the Cardiology faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, finishing as an Assistant Professor and Co-Director of Interventional Cardiology before moving to Springfield, Illinois to join Prairie Cardiovascular as a partner in 1994.  Following a decade of busy interventional practice at Prairie, Dr. Shelton added administrative efforts to his clinical practice until he became the President of Prairie in 2009.  As Prairie’s President, he oversaw a tremendous expansion of the practice from a group of 44 cardiologists to a group of 120 providers spread over the entire central and southern Illinois regions, providing service to 52 communities and 4 main hub hospitals.  He has extensive research experience as well, and has had 37 publications in the peer reviewed literature.  He has given lectures in 11 different countries and is a past Governor of the American College of Cardiology.  He was also appointed as a Fellow of the European College of Cardiology in 2008.  He has been on many International Guideline panels, and was the Co-Chair of the ACC Master Clinician Sessions for four years.  He has been a guest editor for several Cardiovascular publications and a Cardiology Board question reviewer as well.

Tammy Lett, RN, MBHA

Chief Operating Officer

Tammy Lett, RN, MBHA, comes to HSHS Medical Group with 25 years of acute care hospital experience including roles as director of professional services and chief nursing officer. She has contributed to HSHS ministries for more than 20 years. Tammy is a registered nurse and earned her bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Greenville University and her master’s degree in business and health care administration from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

Dr. Jim Bock

Chief Physician Executive

Board certified in family medicine, James Bock, MD, received his education and completed his residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Rockford. Before stepping into this role, Dr. Bock served the health care needs of the Decatur area community since 1990 as a family medicine physician. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians

Penny McCarty, MHRIR, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Vice President of Human Resources

Penny McCarty holds a master’s degree in human resources and industrial relations from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and joined the Medical Group after serving as Executive Director of Human Resources at SIU School of Medicine. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the HR Certification Institute. A member and past president of the Central Illinois Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, Penny received their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.

Keith Griffeth

Vice President of Quality

Keith Griffeth earned his Master of Business Administration from William Woods University in Fulton, MO, and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO and Blessing Rieman College of Nursing in Quincy, IL. A member of the American Society for Quality, National Association for Healthcare Quality and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Keith has nearly 20 years of experience in health care management. Before joining HSHS Medical Group, Keith served as director of quality for Hannibal Regional Healthcare System in Hannibal, MO.
