Madison County Fair Cooling Station and more sponsored by hospital

July 21, 2022

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland is once again partnering with the Madison County Fair to provide a first aid, cooling and health education station at this year’s event.

St. Joseph’s Hospital will have trained health professionals on site at the fairgrounds Tuesday, July 26 through Friday, July 29 from 3 to 7 p.m. each day, and Saturday, July 30 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Personnel will be available to treat minor injuries, overheating and other medical issues. The station will be located in the HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Pavilion located between the Exhibition Hall and the Food and Beverage Pavilion. Highland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will also be on standby if needed.

During the first aid station’s hours, fairgoers can also visit the pavilion to cool off from the summer’s heat. The station will be stocked with fans, water, ice packs and popsicles for children.

Health representatives from St. Joseph’s and other health care partners will be sharing education and information about hospital services at the station these days:

  • Tuesday, July 26 – Lisa Ketchum, diabetes educator from St. Joseph’s, and a representative from Prairie Heart Institute.
  • Wednesday, July 27 – Helicopter (weather permitting) from SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, and Michele Wasser, engagement specialist with Gateway Foundation.
  • Thursday, July 28 – Highland EMS/Fire personnel and Patrick Small, St. Joseph’s emergency department manager, providing education about drowning prevention.
  • Friday, July 29 – Health and nutrition information from St. Joseph’s dietitian.
  • Saturday, July 30 – Bree Mccurdy, HSHS senior talent acquisition consultant.

While inside the Hospital Pavilion, fairgoers can receive giveaways, as well as enter a drawing to win one of two $100 gas cards, as well as enter their kids for a chance to win one of five Korte Recreation Center passes and five Highland Community Pool tickets.
