AngelEye NICU Camera System installed in every HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital NICU bed

GREEN BAY, Wis. Having a baby in the NICU can be a challenging time for parents, and now with the newly installed AngelEye Camera System, families can step out to grab a change of clothes, a bite to eat, or anything else they need while having constant assurance of their baby’s condition. This technology allows families 24/7 live video access to their newborn, bridging the physical gap when they can’t be at the hospital. This initiative is made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of donations to the HSHS St. Vincent/St. Mary’s Foundation from individual community members, families and local businesses.

The AngelEye NICU Camera System provides a safe, secure window to parents and families of babies in the NICU with desktop or mobile device app access. Parents receive a shareable private link, which can be given to other family members at their discretion. This innovation in care is specifically built for NICUs and is designed to improve communication from newborn care teams as well as reduce stress and anxiety for families. Currently, HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital has the only AngelEye system in Northeast Wisconsin.

Craig and Stephanie were among the first to use the AngelEye system at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital to watch their daughter Erza, who was born one month premature. Though her prognosis has been positive since birth, Erza’s parents have found comfort in being able to check in on her at any time. Craig’s sister, who lives in another state, has also been able to check on her niece with the technology.

“It is comforting to be able to see her, and it’s really neat to see a live video,” said Craig. “I travel for work, so on my breaks I could go check in on her: ‘How’s she doing? Is she ok?’ I can just look and have that reassurance.”

“We’re here for not only your loved one—your baby that we are taking care of— but we’re also here for the whole family,” said James Burke, Manager of the HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital NICU. “This technology takes us to the next level to say even when you’re not here, you can still be a part of the St. Vincent Children’s Hospital NICU team keeping an eye on your baby.”

The AngelEye system provides parents 24/7 live footage of baby, with future functionality including HIPAA compliant one-way messaging, where the care team will be able to share updates and photos with parents. A version of this technology will be added to the HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, or PICU, later this year.

The NICU at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital is the first and longest-serving NICU in the Green Bay area– providing expert care for infants born too early, with low birth weights, congenital birth defects or any other unanticipated difficulties that may occur during delivery.

While nothing can replace being in the room, the AngelEye NICU Camera System helps NICU parents remain connected with their little ones. This technology is another example of St. Vincent Children’s Hospital’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art care for the tiniest of warriors and their families.
