There are additional visiting policies for specialized service areas:

  • Pediatrics: One parent or adult designee by the parents should remain with the patient at all times.
  • Labor and Delivery: Two visitors at a time. No one under 18 unless they are the patient or father of the expected newborn.
  • Postpartum: No one under 18 unless they are the sibling of the newborn and accompanied by a responsible adult.

Extended visiting will be granted on an individual basis at the discretion of the patient’s physician, nurse, or care team member, and evaluated throughout the patient’s stay. It may be necessary to limit visitors during certain situations.

You can call 217-342-2121 to talk to your loved ones at any time.

Wearing a mask is optional for most patients and visitors. Please understand that there are some exceptions when masking will still be required in our HSHS facilities in Illinois.

Masks are still required for patients and visitors who:

  • May have respiratory illness, or symptoms similar to COVID or the flu.
  • Have been exposed to someone with COVID in the last 10 days.
  • Work or live in an area that is experiencing a COVID outbreak.
  • Visit or care for patients who are in isolation.

Additionally, patients may request that anyone in their care team wear masks in certain situations and we will respect and honor their wishes.

As we continue to monitor community transmission levels of all respiratory illnesses, HSHS reserves the right to require masking at any time, should community transmission levels change.

We ask that you follow these simple courtesies at any visit:

  • Practice hand hygiene by using hand sanitizers or washing hands with soap and water as you enter and leave the patient’s room. Please follow any isolation precautions.

  • Family members or friends who have a cold, cough, fever, or rash should not visit until they feel better.

  • Check with the nurse before bringing food and beverages to a patient in case he/she is on a special diet.

Waiting Areas

Waiting areas may be limited or closed and are subject to change to address the health needs of our communities during this time of COVID.

Visitors are welcome to wait in the Maple Street Lobby or the Healing Garden .

A waiting room for Intensive Care families is located on the second floor between the Intensive Care Unit and the elevators.

Individuals accompanying patients who are having surgery are asked to wait in the Surgery Waiting Room on the second floor. The Surgery Waiting Room is accessed by taking the surgery elevator past Patient Registration off of Mulberry Street. Many of our waiting rooms are equipped with personal computers for access to the internet.
