St. Mary's Hospital - Decatur Services Sports Medicine Fall Prevention and Balance Recovery Fall Prevention and Balance Recovery Designed for anyone who: Has a fear of falling. Has fallen within the last 12 months. Feels weak and unsteady when moving. Has had a knee, hip or ankle replacement. Has had a concusion and needs to recover before returning to a sport or activity. Facts About Falls One in three adults age 65 and older fall each year. Falls are the leading cause of injuries for people age 65 and older. 20 to 30 percent of people who suffer moderate to severe fall injuries have difficulty living independently and have an increased risk of early death. Balance training has shown beneficial results with a diminished risk of falls. Program Details The program includes 30-minute sessions for balance training and strengthening exercises. All visits will be conducted by a certified athletic trainer. Program Fee: $99; Includes eight 30-minute sessions. Cash or checks accepted. Insurance will not be billed.
