Lymphedema Therapy Comes to Shelbyville
October 20, 2026
HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital is expanding its therapy services to include specialized lymphedema therapy, providing patients in Shelbyville and surrounding communities with access to individualized evaluation and treatment close to home.
Lymphedema can cause swelling, heaviness, tightness and discomfort, decreased mobility and range of motion, and an increased risk of infection. These symptoms can affect daily activities, mobility and quality of life when left unmanaged.
Occupational and Certified Lymphedema Therapist William Barquin, MOTR/L, CLT, provides lymphedema therapy at Good Shepherd Hospital on an outpatient basis.
“Lymphedema can affect how a person moves, feels and goes about their daily activities,” said Barquin. “Our goal is to help patients manage their symptoms, improve their mobility and feel more confident in managing their condition.”
Early identification and treatment can help patients manage swelling, reduce the risk of complications and maintain function. Lymphedema therapy may include individualized techniques and exercises, such as compression therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, skin care and education, designed to manage swelling and improve comfort and mobility based on each patient’s needs.
Good Shepherd Hospital is now accepting referrals for individualized lymphedema evaluation and treatment. A physician referral is required.
For questions or referrals, call 217-774-6434.
