The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a critical care unit for children who are critically ill and require intensive medical care. The PICU in HSHS St. John's Children's Hospital is located on the 5th floor. This eight-bed unit provides care for critically ill pediatric patients under age 18.

A physician with specialized training in pediatric intensive care medicine, called a pediatric intensivist, supervises the care of the nearly 500 children admitted to the unit every year. A team of pediatric specialists is available to provide specialized care. The PICU nurses are highly skilled and specially trained to work in this critical care environment.
