All instructors are registered nurses at the Women & Infant Center. This class provides information on understanding newborn traits, newborn behaviors, and also crying & comforting. We will go over what skin to skin contact is and discuss its importance, as well as, newborn procedures and newborn appearances. Many parents want to know about what to expect with newborn behaviors. This class provides information on newborn states of alertness, newborn sleep, room-sharing, and newborn breathing patterns. Why do babies cry? This will be answered by talking about newborn crying patterns, comfort techniques, coping with a crying baby, and new parent emotions that will go along with this brand new life experience. Parents will better understand feeding and hunger cues, and then with that, go right on into diapering basics. The last part of the class with wrap up with newborn health and safety. After taking Baby Basics Class, parents will definitely be much more comfortable taking home their newborn.
