Blessing of Animals

Each year in October, Catholics around the world celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. To honor St. Francis, the patron saint of animals, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital invites the community and their pets to a Pet Blessing on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Cancer Care Center, 1990 E. Lake Shore Dr.

Father Amal Roche will perform the blessing. All hospital colleagues and community members are invited to bring their pet for a blessing. All animals must be on a leash, and pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. 

The life of love and service modeled by St. Francis is also followed by the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, the founding institute of Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS). HSHS ministries are celebrating the feast of St. Francis throughout the month of October.
