What are the possible outcomes for the screening?
Your screening will have three possible outcomes:
Negative screen: No concerning nodules for lung cancer were identified. Given that you are still at risk for developing lung cancer in the future, we currently recommend a repeat screening yearly for two more years.
Positive screen: A lung nodule was detected that may require additional testing. We will meet with you to discuss the results, answer any of your questions and inform your primary care provider. Any required services following positive results will be coordinated with your provider.
Clinically important abnormality: Whether your screen is negative or positive for lung nodules, we may detect other unsuspected abnormalities that may require additional follow-up, such as other lung abnormalities, lesions in the blood vessels, liver, bone or other structures. We will send the results to you and your provider. Further medical care should be discussed with your provider.
