Two New Surgeons Join HSHS Medical Group in Effingham

HSHS Medical Group is pleased to welcome two new general surgeons to the Effingham area: Wendy Z. Lim, MD, and Sarah Christine Coe Policicchio, MD. Dr. Lim and Dr. Coe Policicchio are joining general surgeons Dr. Ruben Boyajian and Dr. Eduardo Vaca at HSHS Medical Group Multispecialty Care – Effingham, located at 900 West Temple Ave., Building B, Suite 2500, in Effingham.
Dr. Lim (r) and Dr. Coe Policicchio (l) provide surgical care for adults with hernias, gallbladder disease, breast concerns and colorectal problems, with Dr. Coe Policicchio having additional interest in helping those with thyroid issues. They can perform surgery using minimally invasive and laparoscopic techniques that can mean smaller incisions, less pain and a faster return to daily life.
Dr. Lim and Dr. Coe Policicchio are joining HSHS Medical Group general surgeon Dr. Eduardo Vaca in offering robotic-assisted surgery locally at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. HSHS St. Anthony’s has the latest robotic-assisted surgical system, the da Vinci® 5, to continue enhancing the surgical offerings and access for patients in the southcentral Illinois region.
Dr. Wendy Lim: As a general surgeon, Dr. Lim takes time to listen to each patient, explain their diagnosis in straightforward terms and outline available options. Her goal is to help patients feel informed and involved from consultation through recovery.
Dr. Lim earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She completed her general surgery residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Dr. Sarah Christine Coe Policicchio: Patients who see Dr. Coe Policicchio, a board-eligible general surgeon, can expect clear communication and a collaborative approach. She takes time to explain each diagnosis and treatment option so patients feel confident and informed from consultation through recovery.
Dr. Coe Policicchio earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois and completed her general surgery residency in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. She holds advanced certifications in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery.
