Ruth's Story

When you are facing a hospital stay and focused on getting back to everyday life, you need more than treatment. You want a place where your needs are heard quickly, your recovery plan is clear, and you feel supported through each step.

That is what Ruth experienced with transitional care at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville where she spent 10 days before returning home.

After a long career in nursing, she found herself on the other side of care, working toward strength and independence again. “I have had excellent hands-on, whole person care,” Ruth shared.

When you're in recovery, the details matter. Like feeling safe in your environment, getting meals that fit your needs, and having a therapy team that helps you keep moving forward even when it is hard.

“Physical therapy and occupational therapy was challenging, but continued encouragement and patience made me want to participate in my healing,” she said. “They pushed me to my limits, it was good for me, and I was meeting goals to return home.”

Ruth also shared how important it was to have support that fit her as a whole person, including nutrition guidance along the way.

“They fulfilled my needs for certain types of food,” she noted.

If you or someone you love needs extra time, support and therapy to recover after an illness, injury or hospital stay, our Almost Home program can help bridge the gap between inpatient care and going home. With the right plan and the right encouragement, those next steps can feel possible again.
