Brennan Welcomed with Commissioning Ceremony

Members of Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) Executive and Central Illinois Market leadership teams today honored Brian Brennan, MHA, FACHE, with a Commissioning Ceremony in HSHS St. John’s Hospital’s chapel. Brennan joined HSHS as Central Illinois Market President and CEO and HSHS St. John’s Hospital President and CEO on May 27.
In addition to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, hospitals in this market include HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur; HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham; HSHS St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield; and HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville.
During the ceremony, Brennan was led in his commitment to uphold the Mission and Core Values of HSHS by HSHS Senior Vice President, Chief Operations Officer Kathy Donovan, MSN, BSN, RN, NE-BC. HSHS Senior Vice President, Chief Mission Officer Rachelle Barina, PhD, HEC-C, gave welcoming remarks and presented Brennan with a San Damiano Cross, a significant crucifix in Franciscan history. HSHS Central Illinois Market Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashish Tokhi provided an introduction to a reading from the Gospel of Luke, while Spiritual Care and Mission Supervisor Karla Marshall offered a prayer.
Brennan is an accomplished health care executive with over 20 years of executive experience leading regional health care systems as well as community and rural hospitals and clinics within integrated delivery networks. He has led transformational growth focusing on patient-centered care, developed innovative delivery models and built collaborative relationships with medical teams to establish high-quality care systems. He joined HSHS from Baylor Scott and White Healthcare in Texas, serving as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Greater Austin
Region in Austin.
Board-certified in healthcare management from the American College of Healthcare Executives, Brennan has a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of South Florida, Tampa, and a Bachelor of Science in nuclear medicine technology from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
