Take a Step Toward Heart Health With the Powered by Prairie Walk and Health Fair

Heart health is a community effort. HSHS St. John’s Foundation and Prairie Cardiovascular are proud to promote cardiac health with the Powered by Prairie Walk and Heart Fair on Sept. 12 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Southwind Park in Springfield.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming a life every 34 seconds, according to the American Heart Association. All proceeds raised by the low-impact, high-fun event will benefit cardiovascular services at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

“Dollars raised remain local and are used to impact the care we provide within our community, including help with equipment needs, rehab participant incentives, specialized programs, facility improvements, research, patient education and colleague training,” said Christine Bryant, BSN, RN, Cardiac Rehab/Heart Failure Nurse Manager at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Registration fees are $20 for cardiac rehab patients, $25 for individuals and $80 for a family of four. All participants receive a T-shirt.

Participants should gather at Southwind Park’s Hope Pavilion, 4965 S. Second St., where the health fair will also be located. Attendees can get information on hands-only CPR, cardiac rehabilitation services, nutrition and pharmacy needs. A photo booth and children’s activities will also be available.
