Meet the new general surgeon at Prevea Health and HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, Dr. Abdelouahid Wahid Souala

March 12, 2024

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Prevea Health’s team of specialized general surgeons continues to grow in Sheboygan, as Dr. Abdelouahid Wahid Souala settles into the Lakeshore community.

“My wife, little girl and I love Sheboygan, and that’s a big reason why we moved here,” said Dr. Souala. “Growing up near the Mediterranean Sea, a huge body of water, me and my wife feel right at home with Lake Michigan right here. From fishing to swimming, to bike rides with my family and the beautiful parks, we absolutely love it.”

As the newest breast and general surgeon at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, Dr. Souala brings several specialized services to the Sheboygan region. With his surgical skills and the use of stateof-the-art technology at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, Dr. Souala continues to advance health care options within the community.

“A major part of my decision to work with Prevea was because of the relationship they have with HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital,” said Dr. Souala. “Because Prevea partners with HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital I have access to the advanced technology needed for some of the newest general surgeries. The robotic procedures I can offer often mean my patients are recovering faster and having less discomfort than in years past, when other types of surgeries were the solution.” Having access to specialists and technology to diagnose and treat breast cancer at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital also allows patients to receive care close to home.

Bedside manner is an important quality to Dr. Souala. He prides himself on being caring, compassionate and straightforward with his patients, ensuring they are comfortable and understand what is going to happen before, during and after surgery.

“I enjoy getting to know each of my patients and really hope they enjoy getting to know me, too,” said Dr. Souala. “My goal is to make sure they are comfortable prior to heading to the operating room, and sometimes a little humor helps to break the ice and relieve some of that anxiety.”

Being a well-rounded general surgeon means Dr. Souala can offer many specialized procedures. His key services include robotic and minimally invasive surgery; hernia repair; anti-reflux and hiatal hernia surgery; general abdominal surgery; breast cancer surgery; hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis access; surgical endoscopy and colonoscopy.

“As a general surgeon, I have the privilege of seeing a variety of patients with multiple and unique conditions which I can help them with,” said Dr. Souala. “But whether I am catching up with a patient following a hernia repair or a cancer treatment, it’s always rewarding knowing that I can help them thanks in part to some of the latest advancements in surgical options at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital.”

At Prevea Health and HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, Dr. Souala is proud to offer patients the care they need, right here in Sheboygan. Our surgical care team, which also includes Dr. Emiko Hayakawa and Dr. Michael Heili, means people in the Lakeshore and beyond will receive exceptional, lifelong care, close to home.
