Laboratory Services

HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital laboratory is a specialized service, which provides testing 24 hours per day; 7 days per week, to assure those patients’ results are available as rapidly as possible.

The laboratory is conveniently located on the 1st floor of HSHS St. Mary's Hospital. It is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is affiliated with HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Mayo Medical Laboratories and Quest Diagnostic Laboratories. 

Outpatient Hours
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday - Friday)
No Weekends. No Holidays.

The laboratory performs testing 24 hours per day; 7 days per week to assure your test results will be available in a timely fashion. Most tests your doctor orders will be performed on site at HSHS St. Mary's laboratory. Occasional tests will be referred to Mayo Medical Center, HSHS St. John's Hospital or Quest Diagnostic Laboratories.

Anatomic Pathology

Anatomic pathology refers to the study of body tissue and cells. Cytology and Histology sections comprise the Department of Anatomic Pathology. The cytology department processes pap smears, fine needle aspirations and a variety of body fluid specimens. The histology department processes biopsies and other surgical specimens.

Clinical Pathology

Clinical pathology refers mainly to the study of blood or body fluids. Although some sections of this department use a microscope for analysis, most testing is instrument based. The department is comprised of Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology and Transfusion Services, which offer state of the art technology and diagnostic testing. The department is staffed by certified, experienced medical technologists who provide testing 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
