New General Surgeon Brings Personalized Care to Decatur
July 06, 2026
HSHS Medical Group welcomes Amrita Pandit, MD, FACS, a board-certified general surgeon, to HSHS Medical Group Multispecialty Care – Decatur, 1730 E. Lake Shore Drive.
Dr. Pandit joins the surgical team at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital’s new Center for Advanced Surgery where she provides general surgery care for adults, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery when appropriate. She cares for patients with common surgical needs, weight-related health concerns and conditions that may require careful evaluation or surgical treatment. When surgery is part of a patient’s care plan, clear answers and practical guidance matter. Dr. Pandit takes time to listen, explain diagnoses and help patients understand their treatment options. Her approach is focused on helping patients feel informed, supported and involved in decisions about their care.
Dr. Pandit earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Wardha, Maharashtra, India. She completed a general surgery residency through the University of Vermont School of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont, and Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut. She also completed fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery and robotics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
She is board certified in general surgery and obesity medicine. Dr. Pandit is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
New patients will need a referral from their physician. Established patients can call 217-329-1000 to schedule an appointment.
