At St. John’s College of Nursing, we believe every student—whether new to patient care or bringing prior experience—deserves the chance to build skills in a safe, supportive environment. Our Simulation Learning Center, just two blocks from our main campus at 850 E. Madison Street, offers a fully immersive, hospital-like setting where you’ll practice, grow, and gain confidence before stepping into real clinical settings.

Real-World Training, Just Steps from Campus

While many programs lack access to simulation, St. John’s students benefit from a purpose-built center that is fully integrated into every clinical course. Regardless of clinical placement, every student is guaranteed simulation access to develop essential nursing skills.

Our Center Features:

  • Six realistic healthcare environments:
    • OB/Operating Room
    • Emergency Room
    • Med-Surg Room
    • Pediatric Room
    • Exam Room
    • Skills Lab
  • Fully equipped with high-fidelity manikins that breathe, speak, blink, and respond to treatment
  • Scenarios for childbirth, trauma, cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and more

What Sets Our Simulation Lab Apart

It’s Not an Add-On. It’s Central to How We Teach.
Every student participates in required simulation sessions throughout the program, building skills in clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication.

Risk-Free Practice
Students practice complex procedures and clinical reasoning in a safe environment, where errors become learning opportunities, not safety concerns.

Sharpened Decision-Making
Immersive scenarios help students build confidence under pressure and develop clinical judgment they’ll rely on in real patient care.

Better Communication, Better Care
Students work in teams during simulations—strengthening their collaboration, bedside manner, and ability to deliver patient-centered care.

Built-In Feedback & Growth
Each session is recorded and reviewed in faculty-led debriefings, providing students with an opportunity to reflect, reinforce their strengths, and improve through targeted coaching.

Supporting Every Learner

Control Room
Faculty observe and guide simulations in real time using advanced AV tools, ensuring accurate feedback and structured progression.

Debriefing Rooms
Secure, student-centered spaces for reviewing simulation recordings, discussing decisions, and developing confidence.

Skills Labs
Hands-on practice using task trainers for core nursing skills like IV insertion, catheterization, and wound care—aligned with required clinical competencies.

Technology That Mirrors Reality
All equipment is chosen to reflect the tools used in modern hospitals, ensuring students are comfortable with current technology before they graduate.

Learn by Doing. Learn by Reviewing.

Simulation is more than a requirement—it’s a dynamic loop of practice, feedback, and mastery. Our classrooms are equipped for digital review and reflection, reinforcing clinical decision-making, technical performance, and professional readiness.

Simulation attendance is required and treated as equivalent to clinical lab attendance. Students are expected to fully participate in all scheduled sessions, as noted in the student handbook under Time and Attendance.

Why It Matters
St. John’s ensures that all students, regardless of rotation or placement, are prepared for the real world. Our Simulation Learning Center:

  • Levels the playing field for all learners
  • Bridges the gap between theory and hands-on care
  • Fosters competence and confidence in high-stakes scenarios

You’ll Be Ready—Because You’ve Already Done It Here
Whether you’re managing a pediatric emergency, assisting in childbirth, or responding to a code, you won’t be doing it for the first time. At St. John’s, we prepare you for real life in nursing—because practice happens here.
