St. John’s College of Nursing is committed to ensuring all students, regardless of physical, sensory, psychological, or learning differences, have equal access to academics, simulation labs, and clinical experiences. We provide individualized accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and we align with WCAG 2.1 AA digital accessibility standards.

What We Offer

Our classrooms, simulation labs, and study spaces have been designed with accessibility in mind:
  • Accessible entrances, elevators, and restrooms
  • Adjustable hospital beds and simulation equipment
  • Clear signage and wheelchair-friendly layouts
  • Captioned instructional content and accessible digital platforms
Hands-on learning is central to our programs. We work with students and faculty to ensure equitable participation in:
  • Emergency, obstetrics, pediatric, and adult simulations
  • Skills labs (IV insertion, wound care, etc.)
  • Clinical experiences aligned with approved accommodations

Requesting Accommodations

Students must submit a formal request each semester to initiate or renew accommodations.

  • Step 1: Submit an Accessibility Accommodations Request
  • Step 3: Provide supporting documentation (if required)
  • Step 4: Receive a formal accommodation plan; faculty are notified as needed

Please initiate requests before the start of the semester when possible.

Concerns or Appeals

If you believe an accommodation was improperly denied or not implemented:

  1. Informal Step: Contact the Dean of Students to seek a resolution.
  2. Formal Appeal: Submit an appeal to the Academic Dean if unresolved.

For more information on formal grievance procedures, visit the Student Complaints page to explore next steps regarding disability-related concerns or other student issues.
