In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Illinois Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act, and the unique needs of nursing education, the College prohibits sex-based discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in all academic, clinical, and extracurricular settings.

What is Title IX

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, including: 

  • Sexual harassment, assault, or dating violence 
  • Discrimination based on pregnancy or parenting status 
  • Discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression 
  • Retaliation for reporting a Title IX concern 


How to Report

You can report: 

  • Via the online reporting form (anonymous option available) 
  • Directly to the Title IX Coordinator (in person, email, or phone) 
  • To any faculty or staff member (they are mandatory reporters) 
  • In an emergency: call 911 or campus security 

Faculty and staff are required to notify the Title IX Coordinator if they become aware of sexual harassment or discrimination.

Can I file a report even if I don’t want an investigation?  
Yes. You can access supportive measures without filing a formal complaint.

What if the incident happened online or off-campus?  
Title IX applies in all College-related environments, including clinicals and online spaces.

Will my report be kept confidential?  
Reports are shared only with those who need to know. Counselors are fully confidential; faculty are mandatory reporters.

What rights does the accused have?  
Respondents are presumed not responsible until a decision is made. They have full due process rights.

Can I bring a lawyer or advisor to meetings?  
Yes. You can be accompanied by any advisor throughout the process.

I’m pregnant. Can I miss clinicals or reschedule?  
Yes. You are legally entitled to accommodations. We’ll work with you on alternatives.

What if someone makes a false report?  
Intentional false reports are a violation of College policy. However, reports made in good faith—even if unsubstantiated—are protected.

Title IX protects your ability to remain enrolled while pregnant or parenting. You may request:
  • Excused absences and makeup work
  • Modified clinical assignments or schedules
  • Lactation accommodations
You cannot be penalized academically for pregnancy-related absences or accommodations.
All parties (complainants and respondents) have the right to:
  • Receive a written summary of the allegations and their rights
  • Be accompanied by an advisor of their choice (including legal counsel)
  • Access and respond to all evidence
  • Request supportive measures (academic, safety, or clinical accommodations)
  • Be treated with dignity and impartiality
  • Appeal the outcome based on specific grounds (e.g., bias, new evidence)
