Mary Barnes brings decades of experience in critical care and cardiac surgery ICU to her teaching role at St. John’s College of Nursing. With a strong foundation in both clinical practice and education, she is passionate about enhancing quality of care—particularly for vulnerable populations such as the hospitalized elderly and individuals with dementia.

Mary’s commitment to advancing evidence-based practice is reflected in her work on Foley catheter usage reduction and staff education initiatives in geriatric and dementia care. As an adjunct faculty member, she fosters student engagement by connecting real-world challenges to classroom learning, encouraging critical thinking and patient-centered care.

Cynthia Bednarchik, DNP, CNP

Assistant Professor, Faculty
Professional Background & Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Cynthia Bednarchik is a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with nearly two decades of experience in nursing, clinical practice, and academia. She specializes in family practice and psychiatric-mental health care, with a strong commitment to improving access to mental health services.

Since joining the faculty at St. John’s College in 2019, Dr. Bednarchik has been dedicated to advancing nurse practitioner education and fostering clinical excellence. She emphasizes an integrative, patient-centered approach in her teaching, ensuring students are well-prepared for the complexities of modern healthcare.

Linda Blakley

Linda Blakley, DNP, RN

Adjunct Faculty
Professional Background & Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Linda Blakley began her nursing journey at St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with her diploma in 1982. With a career spanning over four decades, she has served as a staff nurse, charge nurse, and perinatal outreach educator, with a focus on maternal and newborn care. She joined the faculty at St. John’s College in 2009 and retired in May 2024, continuing to teach as an adjunct faculty member.

Throughout her academic tenure, Dr. Blakley has taught courses in maternity and pediatrics, introductory medical-surgical nursing, and community/public health nursing. She is passionate about maternal and infant health, reducing morbidity and mortality, and advancing simulation use in nursing education.

Her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project focused on enhancing the transition to practice for new nurses through residency programs aimed at increasing the number of BSN-prepared nurses in direct patient care.

Gloria Brummer, DNP, RN, CEN, CNE

Professor

Dr. Gloria Brummer is a seasoned nurse educator and certified emergency nurse who brings decades of diverse clinical and academic experience to St. John’s College of Nursing. A Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), she has taught across online, clinical, classroom, simulation, and lab settings in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Dr. Brummer is known for her dedication to interprofessional collaboration, evidence-based practice, and advancing client-centered care through education and system improvements.

In addition to her leadership in doctoral and graduate program development and accreditation, she has played an integral role in curriculum innovation and faculty mentorship. Her approach to teaching emphasizes collaboration across disciplines, critical thinking, and preparing students to respond confidently to the evolving needs of patients and communities.

Dr. Gina Canny is a nurse educator and Trauma Nurse Specialist with extensive academic and clinical experience. She has taught courses in medical-surgical nursing, professional practice immersion, and curriculum development at St. John’s College, Millikin University, and Benedictine University.

Her clinical expertise spans emergency, renal dialysis, respiratory care, and vascular neurology. Dr. Canny’s teaching emphasizes evidence-based practice, clinical judgment, and resilience, preparing students to succeed in complex health care settings.

Danielle Davis is an experienced registered nurse with 28 years of practice. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing Education from the American College of Education and is a proud graduate of St. John’s College, aligning her goals and values as a nurse educator closely with the mission of the college. Her background in general/medical-surgical, labor and delivery, gynecological, surgical, home health, and school nursing has provided her with strong clinical expertise and a commitment to evidence-based practice.

Jessica Jennings is an experienced nurse leader who serves as Nurse Manager of the Women and Infant Center (WIC) at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. In this role, she oversees operations across labor and delivery, OB-ICU, OB-ED, mother-baby care, and obstetric operating rooms. With expertise in colleague development, quality improvement, and patient safety, she brings real-world leadership insights to the classroom. Jessica’s teaching emphasizes accountability, interdisciplinary collaboration, and preparing students for the dynamic realities of maternal-child nursing.

Dr. Ife Muyiwa-Ojo is a dedicated nursing educator and clinician with over a decade of nursing experience spanning critical care, ICU, medical-surgical, telemetry, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiac and neurology, and trauma care. In addition to his extensive clinical background, he has over 20 years of experience in engineering and information technology education, bringing a unique interdisciplinary approach to nursing education.

At St. John’s College, Dr. Muyiwa-Ojo is actively involved in teaching across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral nursing programs, curriculum development, student mentorship, and shared governance. He is committed to fostering critical thinking, clinical excellence, and diversity in nursing education, ensuring students receive a well-rounded and inclusive learning experience.

As a primary preceptor for new RNs and LPNs, she is passionate about mentoring the next generation of nurses. Her teaching emphasizes clinical judgment, patient advocacy, and the development of professional reasoning skills essential for safe, effective practice.

Sarah Olson joined the faculty after completing her MSN in Nursing Education at Millikin University. She brings recent clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in general medicine at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where she developed expertise in holistic patient care and interdisciplinary teamwork. Cheryl Pope, MSN, RN, joined the faculty at St. John’s College of Nursing in 2019, bringing over a decade of experience as a nurse educator and a robust clinical background in emergency and cardiac nursing, including service as a flight nurse. Prior to joining St. John’s, she served as an educator at Benedictine University, Illinois Wesleyan University, and as an Emergency Department Educator at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Cheryl is passionate about enhancing nursing assessment skills, improving patient safety and quality of care, and supporting evidence-based, patient-centered care. She has a special interest in simulation-based learning and is a strong advocate for supporting students with learning disabilities to help them succeed in the nursing profession.

Nancy Semenza

Nancy Semenza, PhD, RN

Associate Professor
Professional Background & Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Nancy Semenza has been a dedicated nurse educator since 1994, with faculty appointments at St. John’s College of Nursing, MacMurray College, Lincoln Land Community College, and Millikin University. At St. John’s, she teaches across all four programmatic levels and currently serves as Chair of the Pathway 2 Success student learning enhancement program, a college-wide initiative focused on student achievement and success.

Nancy’s educational and clinical background is both broad and deep. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Clinical Nurse Specialist track, where she also served as a research assistant on a NIH-funded study exploring self-efficacy and symptom distress. She completed her PhD at Saint Louis University, conducting her dissertation research on "Stress, Mood, and Bone Mass Density in Postmenopausal Women" as part of a collaborative NIH project through SLU’s School of Medicine.

Her clinical experience spans medical-surgical, psychiatric, preoperative, pharmacology, ethics, and community/public health nursing. At Millikin University, Nancy was the founding director of the Master’s nursing program, demonstrating her leadership in program development and academic innovation.

Judy Skelton

Judy Skelton, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC

Assistant Professor

Judy Skelton brings over 30 years of clinical and educational experience in obstetric nursing to her role at St. John’s College of Nursing. She is nationally certified in Inpatient Obstetrics (RNC-OB) and Lactation Counseling (CLC), and she serves as a certified Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor. Judy’s extensive clinical experience spans all areas of obstetrics, where she has served in roles ranging from bedside nurse to educator and nurse manager.

Judy joined St. John’s College in 2015 as adjunct faculty, initially teaching in psychiatric and geriatric nursing. In 2017, she transitioned to full-time faculty, currently teaching Maternal/Child Health Nursing and assisting in Mental Health, Medical-Surgical, and Community Health Nursing courses. Her approach to teaching emphasizes clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and preparing students for real-world nursing challenges.

Malissa Talbert brings over 27 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing to her role as adjunct faculty at St. John’s College of Nursing. She is a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) and has taught in the Med/Surg program at the college since 2012. Her clinical background and commitment to evidence-based practice inform her teaching approach, with a focus on preparing students for the complexities of bedside care.

She holds an Associate of Arts in Vocal Music Performance from Lincoln Land Community College and an Associate of Applied Science in Material Production Management from the Community College of the Air Force. Amanda served nearly seven years in the Air Force Reserve, managing customer service and supply programs with the 932nd Civil Engineering Squadron at Scott AFB. After her military service, she joined HSHS Medical Group, where she spent over four years as a Registrar and trainer in the Patient Access Center. In May 2024, Amanda transitioned to St. John’s College, where she now serves as the Admissions Advisor and Administrator of background checks and screenings required for health professions students and employees.

Heather holds a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science in English with Teacher Certification from Eureka College. Her interest in academic administration began during her time at Eureka, where she worked in the Registrar’s Office for over three years. With more than 25 years of experience across P–20 education, Heather has taught at the middle school, high school, and college levels. She has also supervised student teachers, advised post-secondary students, and served as an Educator Licensure Officer—bringing a comprehensive understanding of education systems to her role as Registrar at St. John’s College.

Madison Jeffers

Financial Aid Administrator
Madison holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a focus on pre-health professions from Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL. She began her higher education career six years ago as a student, advancing within the Work Program to a paraprofessional role in the Financial Aid Office as the FAFSA Verification Specialist. Madison now serves as the Financial Aid Administrator, Student Services Coordinator at St. John’s College, and plays an essential role as the Title IX Investigator.

Angela Voudrie-Brockman

Angela Voudrie-Brockman

Bursar
Before joining the St. John’s College, Angela spent several years at Regency Nursing Care, where she held multiple roles. Angela began as the Activities Director, overseeing a team of employees and managing more than 20 volunteers, while organizing activities for over 80 residents. As a Certified Activities Director, she later advanced to Social Services Director, acting as the family liaison and maintaining clear communication between families and the facility. In her final role at Regency, Angela served as Admissions Coordinator, where she welcomed new admissions, handled initial payments for room and board, and reviewed referrals to ensure they met the facility's standards. Angela now serves as the Bursar at St. John’s College of Nursing.

Alisha Williams, BA

Admissions Recruiter
Alisha holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from the University of Illinois-Springfield and brings over 16 years of experience in recruitment with Midwest Technical Institute and sales with Mid-West Family Broadcasting. With additional certifications in Sandler Business Training and NASM, Alisha is highly skilled in both recruitment and business development. She is an active member of IACAC and PICU. Now Alisha leads the recruitment efforts at St. John’s College, while also spearheading the High School Pipeline program, where she focuses on fostering student engagement and growth.

Amanda Winter

Amanda Winter

Simulations Technician
Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from SIUE in Edwardsville, IL. During her college years, she worked under Dr. Danielle N. Lee, studying vole breeding patterns in her junior and senior years. As a recipient of the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship, Amanda also interned through the Robert Noyce Program. With five years of informal education experience at Lincoln Memorial Garden and four years teaching secondary science, Amanda has a well-rounded background in both formal and informal education. In addition to her role as the Simulations Technician at St. John’s College, she leads the High School Pipeline program and has coached scholastic bowl and directed drama productions throughout her career.
